Our client is keen to recruit an experienced HGV Fitter to join their Fleet Maintenance team.
You will be responsible for;
Ensuring the companies fleet vehicles and trailers are fully compliant with current regulations
Monitor and rectify all daily vehicle and trailer defects and breakdowns
Ensure all fleet vehicles undergo safety checks in accordance with statutory requirements
Liaise with the Transport Manager reporting all issues and faults with specific vehicles and trailers
Ensure downtime of any vehicle/trailer is kept to a minimum
Carry out regular stock checks to ensure replacement parts are ordered efficiently, maintain stock levels of repeat parts
Ensure all relevant managers are notified and kept updated in the event of a vehicle or trailer failure
Regularly inspect and review vehicles and trailers, report any requirements for upgrades to the transport manager
Undertake preventative maintenance to all vehicles to minimise the risk of potential failure and/or subsequent downtime
Maintain maintenance software
Ensure fleet maintenance costs are controlled
Assist the Production Maintenance Engineer as and when required
The successful applicant will have a recognised qualification in equipment and vehicle maintenance, H&S qualification (IOSH) or be willing to undertake this qualification within year 1. Welding qualification, hold a full clean HGV UK Driving Licence and hold an FLT licence or willing to undertake within year 1
You will;
have a good knowledge of DVSA Guide to maintaining roadworthiness for commercial goods and public service vehicle
have extensive working knowledge of fleet and plant maintenance and repair requirements
experience in carrying out safety inspections on commercial vehicles and maintaining records in accordance with statutory requirements
experience in the selection and recommendation of parts/stock levels in fleet and plant maintenance
experience in diagnosis of faults and remediation options
able to report on condition/replacement recommendations for plant and vehicle items
You should be able to communication effectively to all interested parties (colleagues, subcontractors, suppliers etc)
Able to work on your own initiative, managing own workload, able to meet deadlines to avoid unnecessary downtime of vehicles
Able to act decisively in sometimes a demanding environment
Capable of providing a responsive service, finding immediate solutions for the benefit of users
Standard working week is a 45 hour week, due to the nature of the role and business this may involve working some weekends and evenings to meet the needs of the business. Salary in the region of £40,000 dependant on experience.
